11/5/09 Mesa LTD Class
“Avenues of Advocacy”
Thanks
to Mesa Public Schools and Mesa Bank, the November
class was held in the large, comfortable conference
room on the 8th floor of the Mesa Bank
Building. Everyone present enjoyed the conference
room’s panoramic views of downtown Mesa.
The
personal stake question of the class day was
“Describe an individual you know that is an
effective “advocate” and think of what makes them an
effective leader.”
Speakers
addressing this subject were:
-
John
D’Anna – The Arizona Republic
-
Tonya Collins – West Mesa Community Development
Corporation (CDC)
-
Kathy McDonald – City of Mesa Boards &
Commissions
-
Pat
Esparza – Advocacy through Service
-
Rich
Crandall – Advocacy through the Legislature
A Census
2010 presentation was made to the class regarding
their partnering in this very important event. The
class agreed that they wanted to partner in this
project.
An
interesting, fun and eye-opening exercise of the day
was the 30 second soap speeches made by class
members recorded on DVD in the morning and viewed in
the afternoon. Everyone learned a little bit more
about their class members and class members shared a
little bit more about themselves.
