“Education Day”

Mesa Leadership’s Education Day covers both K-12 grades and Higher Education.  The day started at the A.T. Still  Campus with Dr. Ted Wendel providing a very comprehensive tour of the Schools of Dentistry & Oral Health, Health Sciences and Osteopathic Medicine.

After the tour, a Higher Education Panel presented interesting facts about their respective schools and afterwards the floor was opened for questions/answers.  Some very interesting educational ideas and opinions were exchanged between the panelists and class members.  The panel members included:

  • Dr. James Mabry & Joni Grover – Mesa Community College

  • Dr. Ted Wendel – A.T. Still University

  • Dr. Roger Hutt – ASU Polytechnic

Then the class members drove to EVIT and enjoyed a delicious gourmet  lunch prepared by the School of Culinary Arts.

After lunch, Lynn Strang, EVIT’s PR Manager, gave the class of a quick tour of their massive campus.  Schools housed at EVIT include Business Management/ Administration, Health Services & Nursing Services, Automotive Technology, Computer Information, Graphic Communication, Human Services, Industrial & Commercial Technology, Public Safety & Security, Audio Video Technology and Electronics Technology.

Then a K-12 Panel spoke about their school systems and answered questions from the class.  Panelists included:

  • Dr. Mike Cowan, Mesa Public Schools Superintendent

  • Dr. Sally Downey, East Valley Institute of Technology Superintendent

  • Robert Wagner, Mesa Preparatory Charter School

It was an eye opening day regarding all of the educational offerings in Mesa and the vital workings within each system.
